Topics include: Day 1 – 1 May 2019 (all streams): leaders and staff conduct outside school: navigating key rights, obligations and conflicts; dealing with difficult parents – navigating parent separation, bullying and online criticism of staff; performance management best practice primer – optimising performance management, dealing with staff who have mental health conditions and defending staff claims against you; dealing with difficult parents; student suspensions and exclusions/explusions; student bullying and cyber-bullying update; managing students with mental health issues – clarifying your duties, the limits of discipline and managing school refusal; student troubling sexualised behaviours and sexting; risk assessment case studies in sport events, camps and trips; managing legal exposure and compliance – permission notes, waivers, privacy, teacher qualifications, volunteers; implementing new policies and practices in school sport to meet child safe obligations and risks;

Day 2 – 2 May 2019 (non-state schools): Discrimination update: navigating enrolment and the limits of reasonable adjustments; case studies – implementing new policies and practices to meet child safe obligations; outsourcing services in schools – managing key risks and implementing effective contracts; identifying and managing conflict of interest affecting the board and school leaders; understanding and defending staff adverse action claims; privacy, confidentiality, data storage and security.
